Karen is a journalist, writer and multimedia creative. Her writing often centers on women, but she also has a knack for writing about language, education, travel and her home state of Texas. Much of her personal writing focuses on themes like wandering, hope, place, and wonder.
In college and grad school, she studied anthropology, French, linguistics and journalism, and her projects in those fields focused on women, their bodies and reproductive rights.
After living in NYC while getting an MA in journalism, Karen moved back home to Texas and spent several years teaching, which in many ways was more of an education than all her degrees combined. More than anything, it made her a better storyteller and more appreciative of the power of good journalism.
Karen lives in Texas with a jungle of houseplants and the world’s greatest dog.
